Maybe it has something to do with people's perceptions of rodents. They think of the Norway rat and the plagues they have caused. Too bad, because rodents are so much more than rats and mice. I happen to think porcupines are neat animals. They are comically cute and they seem to be constantly talking to themselves. And beavers do so much to create habitats that attract all the other mammals -- moose, otters, mink, bears, and others.
