What is the best pet rodent?

In your opinion, what is the best pet rodent and why? What positive experiences have you had with this pet? What is the best pet rodent?
rats, dumbo rats in particular, this is what mine looks like.http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r209/pinkdogwoods/dumbo.jpg they are very social and smart, and they bond to you, they are very trainable, low cost to have. they are playfull and very snuggly. mine licks me all the time and chills on my shoulder, sleeps on my chest or tummy. and i can bring him anywhere without him freaking out.Ferrets are cool but very smelly creatures even after descenting and even if you keep them very clean. and rabbits tend to want to do thier own thing rather then bond. oh and my rat has never bit anyone, ever! hope this helps. What is the best pet rodent?
The RAT!

Ferrets are great but they are not rodents, and not for everybody.

Rats are tame, hardy, friendly, most rats never bite. Better temperament than hamsters or mice, and more brains than a guinea pig.

They enjoy being handled, and though naturally nocturnal, they are happy to come out and play any time. Hamsters are grumpy when you wake them up. Mice have strong smelling urine, though they are pretty and acrobatic.

A hamster will walk of the edge of a table and get injured. A rat won't walk off the edge of the table, and if it did it would not get hurt. It might jump off, though.

I've had a lot of rats and mice, a few hamsters and a few guinea pigs and 2 ferrets.

Rabbits are not rodents either, but close. They can be great pets too.
Rabbits. You can simply leave them in your garden. Their food isn't very expensive. You can just give them vege and carrots-cheap and the rabbit enjoys it as well! Rabbits doesn't really need you to play with them-they entertain themselves, so you can be out of your house as long as you want. Their droppings are not difficult to clean at all. But leaving your rabbit outside makes them feel in the wild. If you want rabbits that are more obedient, you can let them stay inside.

* I used to rare 3 rabbits-trust me!
I'm looking forward to rats (you should get at least two b/c they're social creatures). I'm addicted to youtube videos about pet rats and they are sooo intelligent! They can easily be taught to walk on back legs, come when called, sit on your shoulder, spin around, etc. They seem like having a dog, but less responsibility.

Ferrets stink SO bad even when they are de-scented.

Hedgehogs make awesome pets...I used to have one and she was great!

Hamsters are fun too.

But nothing else seems to have the intelligence of a rat.

Russian Dwarf hamster: They never get tired of playing with you, they have plenty of energy, and just look so cute! If you considering getting a rodent pet, defiently get a dwarf hamster. They are the best.
I've heard from a lot of friends that rat's are, and that'd be my opinion also. They're smarter than other rodents, who would just run on a wheel all day until they fall off. They actually bond. A friend of mine had a rat that would stay on her shoulder all day long.
i wouldnt classify a rabbit as a rodent but they are a great pet, cost practically nothing to feed cos they graze on grass but theyre great and all have different personalities and they are cute anf fluffy!
I have 3 male rats, I love them soo much! They are soo friendly, kind and really fun to play with. They are by far the best.

I also have hamster, she doesn't like too much attention and is fairly boring. hehe
my friend has a ferret. its really cute!

one day he left the drawers open, and the ferret took out all of his clothes and hid them under the bed!

i guess it might some trouble...
I love bunnies (2 good 2 crappy) and I loved the good ones, they were sweet and personable. Ferrets look EXTREMELY cute too.
if u want big rodents i suggest guinea pig but if u wan small rodents i suggest u get hamster(they are cute if u tame it).
