A rodent/squirrel is trapped in the outsiude wall of house. It is adjacent to interior plaster wall. Apparently came in from vent by roof line of two story house. It cannot get out and probably will die there. Any suggestions? Will smell go away? thank you, heinzRodent in outside wall of house?
I had the same thing happen when a Mama squirrel made a nest and had some babies in my wall.
If you haven't tried already then disturb the area where the critter is hanging out. Usually they will leave in a hurry when they realize that it isn't safe.
If there is no way to access it then unfortunately without spending a lot of money then you will have to let nature take it's course.
It will probably smell bad for awhile until the body is reduced to bones so, I highly suggest trying to see if you can get it out!
Good luck!Rodent in outside wall of house?
Why can it not get out via the vent again? If it dies, the smell will last a long time. I'd try and make a path for it to get out if possible. Talk to an exterminator and get their recommendation.
The good news is they aren't that stupid if you don't block off where they came in they will try to go out for food! Rodents if you remember from the hamsters when we were all young are nocturnal so expect them to be quieter during the day and hopefully going out for late dinners. If they do then the nighttime is the time to block off the entrance. I had a cat get very excited-nuts when this happened to us. I thought about popping her in the attic overnight to get the rodents to recognize the smell of a predator and leave! Oh one more thought, this from my husbands good sense. Cover the opening with something that has wire in it not just a cloth plug. They can chew through the cloth! Good luck with it.
