I am an eleven year old girl and my parents have just decided to let me get a pet rodent its my first time and I want something calm that is about medium sizeWhat rodent would be best for me?
I bought 2 male rats for my 2 boys (age 5 %26amp; 8) a few months ago. I was little wary of them, but now we ALL love them. They are very smart, loving little guys. They have never bit anyone, compared with gerbils, hamsters, etc. who bite all the time. They were VERY inexpensive -- $3 each. We bought them when they were babies. The petstore manager congratulated us for choosing great pets AND for saving 2 little lives (so they weren't snake food)!!! I would recommend them highly to anyone. What rodent would be best for me?
if you don't mind rats, get a couple of them - male and female - they are very smart animals, you can tame them that they will eat out of your hand, follow you around, you can let them out of the cage to roam about in a room (just make sure there isn't any wires or any stuff that they could chew on and harm themselves!) and they will not pee or poo on the floor, if they still have access to their cage. They are very social animals and a pleasure to care for. They can live up to 4 years of age.
Try a rabbit. They are not very much money, and they are calm, and are very friendly! Also, guinea pigs are great, and I have heard rats make good pets.
I have a dwarf hamster as well, and... well... they may be cute... but they are HYPER!!!
I also have a bunny, and I used to have a guinea pig!!!
A bunny, if the size is okay with you!!!
Edit:
Hey!!! Wats up with the thumbs down!!! I find that sad...
I recommend rats. They're very sociable, get a same-sex pair to prevent adding to the current overpopulation of pets. Adopt if you can.
They can have an affection to their owners similar to that of what a dog would, are surprisingly clean, and easier to care for and less expensive to keep happy than many other rodents.
Hey!! i have a dwarf hamster and love her.. perfect pet but those are small and if you want somethin bigger i would settle for a hamster, bunny or chinchilla!!! i actually would reccomend a guinea piggy but you said calm and they make alot of noise! just make sure you research which ever one ya choose!! ohh and also make sure you get a wheel for the animal and dont spend your money on a silent wheel... just buy a normal noise makin wheel and wipe it with oil!! hope this helps!!

Uh, I don't agree with that, definitely not a chinchilla. They can be expensive and they are FAR from calm. Hamsters aren't calm either - they're nocturnal and if you keep them in your bedroom they'll keep you up all night.
Honestly I think your best bet would be a rat. They can make really good pets.
Suger gliders are so cool, ferrets are fun and i have a chinchilla, they dont stink, when they poop its just dry pellets...only problem is they crap everywhere when they run around lol.If you want somthing cheap, rabbit or hampster.

a rat would be your best bet. if you dont mind them, but get a baby that way it will live longer, and it wont bite you cuz it dont know you
a chincilla or a ferret!
both are very playful and loveable
ferrets are just like dogs they can be trained and love to play
A rat, get one that's young and handle it often so by the time it's a fatty fat adult it'll just hang out in your lap
a hamster or a chinchilla.
